Minutes
Kanawha Alumni Association
November 22, 2015 Meeting
The
meeting was called to order by KAA President Tom Crutchfield
at 1:37 p.m. The KAA members present were Tom
Crutchfield, Sharon Brady, Dustin Crutchfield, Lamona Casto,
Shirley Lloyd, Paul Peck, Donna Singleton, Deanna Stewart, and
Margret Willey.
The
minutes of the October 25, 2015 meeting were read as a guide to
conducting old business.
Jerry
McPherson in the minutes should be Jerry Wilson. Donna
Singleton corrected information concerning links to 1988 and 1989
reunions on the KAA website. The information was already
there. She created links and cleaned up the formatting of
names.
Margret
Willey thought that the glass in the repaired shadow box had
subsequently been broken.
Donna
Singleton initiated a discussion of the KAA's cookbook
project. She had requested a kit from the company that she
had discussed at an earlier meeting. They make three types of
cookbooks: notebook, hardback or soft cover with
spiral. The cookbooks take 30 to 45 days to process.
Payment terms are 1/2 due in 37 days from invoice; full payment in
90 days from invoice. Shipping takes two to five days.
The company offers discount coupons. We could type in the
recipes online, an option that would be cheaper for us.
Custom fonts are available.
An e-mail has been sent to the
KAA e-mail list requesting recipes. Promotional flyers
seeking recipes have been posted in local locations. Our goal
is to get 300 recipes. The deadline for recipe submission
will be February 14, 2016.
The members present indicated a
preference for a soft cover for the cookbook, unless we are unable
to get the right size, desired custom font and desired spiral type
with the soft cover. Donna and Dustin will prepare sample
covers. Paul asked if we could get a discount if we pay up
front. Donna will check on this.
There was a brief discussion of
our quilt project.
The KAA discussed the theme for
this year's reunion. In keeping with the preliminary plans
for decorating the stage, the theme will be something about "my
home town".
The KAA confirmed that each
server will be paid $25.00 and will receive both a free meal and a
free t-shirt.
Shirley Lloyd brought copies of
all financial reports requested at the previous meeting. She
reported our general fund balance as $670.44 at the end of
October. Our Endowment Fund balance on October 31, 2015, was
$8,442.00.
The minutes of the October 25
meeting were approved with the correction and clarification noted
above. [m/s Dustin Crutchfield/Sharon Brady]
The KAA had further discussion of
whether to seat those who attend the business meeting when they go
to the meal or to have them go through a serving line.
Margret Willey will check with
the Post Office about using the special KAA/Burnsville School
postmark.
Deanna Stewart had bought a metal
mesh container to hold paperback yearbooks. The cost was
$63.49. She also go frames for displaying pictures of post
1970 students. She has 71 Burnsville School programs recorded
by Mike McCoy. She plans to transfer these from VCR to DVD
format.
The KAA wants to sell shirts and
cookbooks on Friday evening, as well as Saturday. Dustin
suggested that some KAA members should walk in the Christmas parade
and hand out index cards for recipes.
The KAA reviewed a November 16,
2015, Facebook posting from Jamie Johnson, a special education
teacher in Upshur County who is taking over the never finished
Danny Heater documentary began about 20 years ago by Kevin
Downs. Her immediate goal is to raise $2,500 for the
project. The KAA made no decision on her request.
There was further discussion of seating option for the Alumni
Banquet.
Next meeting will be January 17,
2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Burnsville Public Library. The
meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m. [m/s Deanna Stewart/Margret
